Job Type: Full-time
Experience: Minimum 5 years in automotive workshop / service centre

We are looking for an experienced Technical Leader / Workshop Foreman / Head of Workshop to lead and support our workshop team at our Proton 3S Service Centre in Kulai.

This role is suitable for an experienced Senior Technician, Foreman, Diagnostic Technician, Technical Specialist, or Workshop Team Leader who is ready to take on more responsibility in technical diagnosis, quality control, technician supervision, and workshop performance.

We prioritise strong hands-on workshop experience, troubleshooting ability, and leadership skills. Candidates with 5 years or more automotive workshop experience are strongly encouraged to apply, even if your current job title is different.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise technicians and ensure repair work is completed correctly and efficiently
• Diagnose vehicle faults based on customer concerns
• Perform test drives when required to verify vehicle symptoms and repair results
• Carry out advanced troubleshooting and diagnosis using appropriate diagnostic tools and workshop procedures
• Guide technicians in troubleshooting, repair, and rectification work
• Provide technical support for difficult or repeated vehicle issues
• Check and confirm parts that require replacement
• Perform final quality checks before vehicle handover
• Monitor repair quality, workmanship, and workshop productivity
• Coach and provide on-the-job training to junior technicians, trainees, and apprentices
• Monitor technician skill development and identify areas for improvement
• Assist with technician competency assessment and technical development
• Ensure workshop tools, equipment, and working areas are properly maintained
• Coordinate closely with Service Advisors, Parts, Warranty, and Service Management
• Escalate difficult technical cases when additional technical assistance is required
• Prepare or assist with technical reports when required
• Ensure workshop SOP, safety requirements, and service standards are followed

These responsibilities closely reflect Proton's Technician Specialist scope, including supervising technicians, diagnosis, test driving, troubleshooting guidance, quality checks, technician training, parts confirmation, skill monitoring, and technical reporting.

What We Are Looking For

Priority will be given to candidates with:

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in automotive workshop, vehicle repair, diagnosis, or service centre operations
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic ability
• Good practical knowledge of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems
• Experience guiding, supervising, or leading technicians
• Ability to identify faults and recommend proper repair solutions
• Good understanding of workshop workflow and repair quality
• Strong sense of responsibility and ownership of technician work
• Good communication and supervisory skills
• Able to work under pressure and manage multiple repair jobs
• Experience in an authorised service centre is an advantage
• Experience with Proton vehicles is an added advantage

Qualification

Automotive qualifications such as the following are an advantage:

• Diploma in Automotive
• SKM Automotive
• SKM Level 3 or above
• Other relevant automotive technical qualifications

However, for this vacancy, relevant 5+ years of workshop experience, technical ability, and leadership exposure will be given strong consideration.

The Proton reference job description lists Diploma in Automotive / SKM Level 5, or SKM Level 3 with five years of related experience, together with good supervisory skills.
