Job Description

As a Material Planner, you will be responsible for the organization, planning and supply chain management of all functions related to the introduction of New Products and materials management of Engineering Change in Smiths Detection Malaysia. You will have experience of configuring a system and agreeing the rules of engagement with your suppliers to achieve your inventory and service level objectives. You will be liaising with the Planning, Production, Quality and Procurement teams, the role holder will ensure that customer priorities are met and to establish product availability dates.

The Material Planner should be familiar with best practice in new product introduction and engineering change management in supply chain planning and be able to challenge the status quo to drive continuous improvement.

The Material Planner will be expected to lead and be a key contributor in cross functional and global improvement projects. Accountable for following KPIs •

• Inventory turns
• Slow and non-moving inventory
• Purchase order schedule adherence
• Material availability

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Manage a system driven material plan to support production and sales order demands Working closely with vendors to ensure on-time delivery of materials. Pro-actively working with vendors to resolve any potential delay in material shipment.
• Build strong relationships with vendors
• Supporting supply chain strategy by using identifying and implementing optimal replenishment technique depending on characteristics of material and supplier
• Optimise inventory levels by evaluating cost of inventory vs supply risk and logistics cost
• Mitigates shortages, excess on order and excess on hand.
• To identify and implement process improvement opportunities and cost saving initiatives
• To identify and quantify, both in monetary and supply risk terms, opportunities for localization
• Supporting business improvement programmes such as Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, Lean etc
• Work with Global Supply Chain Management to implement standardized practices for purchasing, planning and factory materials management that ensure effective use of inventory and logistics resources.
• Defines and continuously improves the materials supply processes from all (3rd party and intercompany) vendors to the factory lines in a manner that eliminates non-value added activity and that supports a high efficiency production operation.
• Develops and guides the implementation of flexibility and supply assurance plans.
• Coordinate sourcing strategies with Supply Management and Customers.
• Develop and implement cost take-down strategies.
• Other duties as required. You are authorized to act within the jurisdiction and capacity in your job scope to deliver the results/output expected of your job function.

The Individual

Skills and Experience:

• BS or MS required in Engineering or Science discipline. Professional certification (APICS, PMAC, CIPS, etc.) an advantage
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in advanced supply chain and logistics methods within an advanced equipment manufacturing or re-manufacturing organization.
• Expert knowledge on Material Requirements Planning
• Strong vendor management experience
• Experience in delivery Plan For Every Part or supply chain improvements highly desired
• Demonstrable experience of the configuration and management of advanced factory planning and inventory management methods.
• Experience of operating with a lean factory environment.
• Well-developed understanding of SAP or equivalent ERP system
• The ability to persistently pursue and achieve results. To look for process improvement and to embrace process change in order to drive the business forward. Actively create plans in order to hit or exceed targets.
• The ability to inspire others to take action toward a common objective. The willingness to challenge others whilst considering their viewpoint and adapting their style to truly bring people with them.
• Strong commercial acumen to be aware of their supply chain activities impact on profitability and cash objectives of the business
• The ability to build an effective network of relationships both internally and externally. An important skill for this role is to understand key regional stakeholders and their needs and to proactively manage important internal or external relationships.
