Your Role

As a Project leader for Forest and Environment Programme, your role is to drive Nature Positive and sustainable sourcing strategies in the Sabah Landscape. Your role will bring you to project sites in multiple districts in Sabah, including Sandakan, Beluran, Tongod, Kinabatangan and Lahad Datu.

Develop and implement Nature Positive strategies.

  • Collaborate with local communities, government agencies, NGOs and other stakeholder to co-develop and execute nature-friendly land-use planning.
  • Lead programme to identify, protect and manage High Conservation Value (HCV) areas.
  • Support the development and implementation of restoration projects in degraded forest area.
  • Explore feasibility of agroforestry model within oil palm concessions.

Conduct and maintain sustainable supply chain engagements.

  • Lead the development, planning and execution of field engagement activities in support of EF’s supply chain programme.

Build and manage relationships with a network of technical, scientific, government and supply chain actors (refineries, mills, FFB dealers, smallholders), NGOs, universities, and government agencies (MPOB, MPOCC, Sabah Forestry Department etc).

Produce reports for internal and external audiences to communicate activities and report progress.

Create proposals and involvement in some aspects of business development.

Your Profile

You are passionate in improving nature, livelihood of smallholders, and sustainability practices of the oil palm industry, bringing expertise in natural resources and supply chain management. You thrive on human relations, both within the team and organization, and externally. Your interests in boosting smallholder resilience makes you keen to frequently travel to rural areas and empathetically engage with the communities to co-develop solutions. An excellent team player with good leadership ability, you comfortably work across teams and stakeholders to achieve fulfilling and intended impact on the targeted groups.

Your love for healthy forests and nature drives you to create innovative and insightful strategies to continuously improve the protection and conservation of forests and their inhabitants. You appreciate that sustainable and responsible sourcing ultimately affects the environment protection and improvement, achieved through collaboration with communities and stakeholders. This collaboration requires natural public speaking skills for conducting meetings, trainings and workshops; strong eye for details in analysing data, developing solutions and executing the propositions to close identified gaps; and willingness to keep learning (and unlearning) and to take initiative when opportunities arise.

To be successful, you possess a strong advantage if you have a sound background in HCV-HCS and RSPO/MSPO requirements, fluency in Bahasa Malaysia and English, and a solid understanding of environmental and social issues in Malaysia within the raw commodity industries.

Working Conditions

  • Degree in environmental science, forestry, natural resources, supply chain or other related field preferable
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • To start as soon as possible
  • Part-time position (80%)
  • Fixed-term, 2 years contract
  • Fluent in Bahasa Malaysia & English (written and spoken)
  • Office Based role in Sandakan, Sabah (Malaysia)
  • Malaysian Citizenship
